On Tuesday the Cowboys received some good news from Defensive Tackle commitment Fua Leilua. He had taken an official visit to TCU this past weekend and there had been concerns that he might flip to TCU. All of this concern was washed away on Tuesday when he reaffirmed his commitment to the Pokes and announced that he was shutting down his recruitment process on Twitter.
This was an important get for the Cowboys who are losing both of their starters at Defensive Tackle from this season. Motekiai Maile (graduation) and Vincent Taylor (graduation) along with valuable depth with Eric Davis (graduation) will all be gone this year.
Depth along the defensive line was a definite strength for the Cowboy defense this year and while the departing players will be missed there are talented players returning that will be counted on to step in and step up. Going into the season the presumed starters will be DeQuinton Osborne (Sr) and Darrion Daniels (Jr). Both were contributors this year and should be able to step in and take over the starters roles moving forward. There is also young talent on the roster in Taaj Bakari (RSo) and Cameron Murray (RFr). I would expect both to contribute this year.
As you can see the addition of a proven play maker like Fua Leilua was a key need for this year’s recruiting class and now that he has reaffirmed his commitment the Cowboys should be able to have a deep rotation along the defensive line once again.
